I’m a theoretical particle physicist currently working at CERN, near Geneva Switzerland. My wife (who is an experimental particle physicist also working at CERN) and I live in France, and spend our time skiing, traveling, biking, hiking, hanging out with friends, and doing physics!
I grew up in New Jersey (USA) and went to university at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. I then went to graduate school (where I met my lovely wife, and got my lovely p.h.d) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA) at Carnegie-Mellon University. After that, I took a post-doctoral research position at the Deutches-Electronen Synchrotron (DESY) outside of Berlin, Germany, where I lived for two years, before starting here at CERN as a theory fellow. As is the case in particle physics, I’ll only be at CERN for a few years before I have to find a new position somewhere. Who knows where this will be?
On a more technical note, my research deals with computer simulations of quantum field theory, and is broadly described as lattice field theory, as you break up space and time into a grid. I’ve worked on excited hadron spectroscopy, heavy quark effective theory, and Higgs Boson properties in some new-physics models. Basically all my research papers can be found here.
Anyway, I’m new to blogging, and I started this blog as an attempt to talk about particle physics in a less sensational way than I feel it is sometimes portrayed. I’m mean, it’s science after all, not politics! Also, I hope to start discussions about topics I’m interested in, and to use it as an excuse to organize my thoughts on the subject, as well as a periodic distraction from research!
